D’you think I came up the Clyde in a Gondola…

Many moons ago, B.S.P.( Before Strathclyde Park ) there was a well known town councillor, let’s call him ‘BB’ who was famous for his many ‘gaffes’. I was present at a concert when, in his opening remarks he expressed his great delight and gratitude that such a dense audience had turned out to support the event. At one meeting there was a discussion about The Clyde Park, as it was then known, and how it could be made more attractive and visitor friendly. One councillor, who had obviously enjoyed a taste of foreign travel, suggested putting a gondola on the river. Continue reading

Sowing the Seed…

So …. here’s the thing. Since I decried all those people who start every sentence with ‘so’, I have become one of ‘those people’. When I write the word down I can always remove it but when I say it – it remains said. I even have a relative who takes great delight in counting the number of times I actually say it (the so-and -so!!). Oh, I am truly sorry, it is my firm intention to make a conscious effort never again to do so. (…oops… well at least this one’s at the end of the sentence…) Continue reading

Just a Few Words…

‘Spring is here – the grass is ris – I wonder where the boidies is – The boids are on the wing – but that’s absoid – from what I’ve hoid – the wing is on the boid!’

This is just one of the many ‘classical’ verses taught to me by my father. This one heralded this exact time of year when nature was doing the opposite of ‘the nights are fair drawin’ in’! He seemed to have a saying or verse for every occasion ….. He could be so funny and yet often so morose. He came into his own, in company, when singing and when his horses won! He was a very clever and talented man who had been denied opportunities to have his talents recognised. Things just never seemed to go his way. Fortunately music was his passion and he had a beautiful tenor voice…… and oh how he could sing!  Continue reading
