…Food for thought…

I’m always on the lookout for further hints and tips for cooking the perfect food for Christmas Day so I watch the relevant programmes when I can.

A couple of days ago the chef started his Christmas Day Menu with his ‘Special Breakfast’: smoked salmon on waffles (batter made from scratch and cooked in his state of the art waffle maker) with a perfectly poached egg and topped with a herb enhanced creme fraiche dressing.  Continue reading

Drawing the line…

I do like socialising but when it involves a certain formality it kind of ‘preys on my mind’ for days beforehand: what should I wear/should I get a cut and blow dry/who’ll be there that I don’t particularly want to ‘party’ with/ hope it’s not raining/ need to do something about these nails… and so on….. little thoughts that keep popping into my head, especially during the ‘riveting soaps’:…. ‘Corrie’( and BTW d’you think that thug is still ‘sleeping under’ Gail?) or ‘Eastenders’ (will somebody PLEASE give Ronnie a nine to five job!!) or ‘Emmerdale'( where they’ll soon need to be keeping a ‘Countryfile’ on all the burgeoning affairs in the village…. Parking is such sweet sorrow…

‘ Is that you all sorted for Christmas then?’ If I, in this season of goodwill, wish to be mischievous and spread misery, despair and panic then I answer ‘Yes!’  to this most irritating of questions, all the while smiling broadly. People (noticeably) ‘go off you’. You might get a very dry, ‘Oh, good for you…’ or, ‘I might have known you’d have everything done!’ or ‘Well, you’ve got nothing else to do with your time….’. I let them wallow briefly before admitting my real situation. Those who know me best say simply, ‘Aye right…pull the other one….’   Continue reading
